International Borderless Medicine Programs

Herbalists Without Borders™ provides volunteer health justice and humanitarian aid to thousands of people in more than 20 countries with multiple chapters in some of those countries. Health, wellness, and compassionate care are served by our volunteers in regions where there are either natural or human-induced crises or disasters.

Examples of such care during the past decade include Herbal Medic Support for First Nations People and the Water Protectors in North Dakota (U.S.), victims and survivors of the earthquakes in Nepal, and hurricanes in Puerto Rico. Helping people when there is political upheaval and subsequent violence or displacement is also part of our global volunteerism.

Herbalists Without Borders also assists global people facing discrimination, oppression, and other barriers to accessing health and wellness. HWB does not impose care upon countries or cultures of people, we go when invited and typically encourage residents of countries to organize and start an HWB Chapter in their region. Cultural autonomy, preservation of healing traditions, indigenous plants, and healers are priorities for Herbalists Without Borders.

Africa Clinics:

HWB has Chapters, Clinics, and allied projects in Kenya, Uganda, Zimbabwe, and The Gambia.

HWB membership offers international groups technical support, access to our member portal, and educational materials in our system. Many groups are also Coordinated in East Africa by our liaison Jeanne Hughes, who coordinates shipments and donations of goods to areas in need.

Rahma Group:

This clinical project began in 2006 with 5 midwives and 8 herbalists. It is located in the border of Rift Valley and Western Prov. including the villages of Soy, Likuyani, Kapchan. Kipsombe locations. The vision of this project is to become optimal service providers of natural medicine in Providence.

Objectives of this program include training village residents/society to treat minor ailments naturally; eradicate diseases related to improper diets and lifestyles; utilize nature as a source of medicines; teach the community the importance of native plants and protect the sustainable life of the environment.

The Rahma Group embraces focused core values such as integrity, discipline, transparency, accountability, and HARD WORK!

Project needs include: digital BP machine, digital camera to catalogue botanicals, blender, scales for weighing powders, laptop computer, 6 anatomy charts, water pumps, filtration, books, and medical equipment.

Cross Cultural Delegations:

Every year or two, we work to co-host a cross-cultural medicine exchange or health delegation to a country that HWB is invited to engage with. To read an interview about the HWB 2016 delegation, Women in Cuba: Herbalism, Health Care & Sustainable Agriculture. Keep an eye out on the blog for a recap of our Cuba trip.
Trip planning is on hold due to COVID, and we will evaluate and resume when it is safe to do so, and travel is accessible.
