Community Herb Gardens Project

HWB isn't only for herbalists!

When we consider global crises it is easy to feel overwhelmed and become disempowered. Creating community gardens that bring back medicinal herbs alongside wild foods of the local habitat is a tangible way to be a part of the solution. As we grow gardens we grow community. Food access is a health justice issue, and by getting healthy food gardens growing in communities, we can support communities in need. Many HWB groups grow food that they donate to local people via bins at free clinics or community events, or through their local food pantries. HWB Chapters also may include Grow a Row, Community Gardens, Food Gardens, Educational Herbal Gardens, and more.

Disaster Relief

HWB also has registered Chapters that respond with disaster relief after natural disasters such as forest fires, hurricanes, flooding, and earthquakes. Seed saving, seed banks, and seed swaps can help get a diversity of seeds and plants back into an area after natural disasters. Email the office for more information.

“The recovery of the people is tied to the recovery of food, since food itself is medicine: not only for the body but for the soul, for the spiritual connection to history, ancestors, and the land.”
